Very Dirty City Air

Manila Air is sooo DIRTY! Here's the proof...

I had our air conditioners cleaned last 6 August 2008. On the same day, I placed in it special filters that are designed to turn any air conditioner into an air filter. It comes with an indicator that you stick on the air conditioner's grill. Once it turns black, after around 1-2 months of normal use as the packaging claimed, it's time to change the filter.

On the 8th day...

The indicator was barely a week old when it started turning black. We had to replace the filter after only 8 days!

See the dirt trapped in the filter? Gross!

Alas! The price we have to pay for living in the city.

Yeah, really sucks. Once, for about two weeks, I thought our airconditioner had finally bogged down, or run out of freon or something. Kept putting off the call to the serviceman, until one day, when work wasn't that heavy, I decided to open up the front grille and clean the filter. Apparently, the reason why we were getting no air out of the vents was because so much dirt had accumulated on the filter (it had been months since my last cleanup...sorry Mrs. G :-D).

So I rushed to the sink and used an old toothbrush to get rid of the muck, and voila, the aircon started "working again."

@Mr. Q - Exact same thing happened to us! On the 8th day, the air con just stopped working because of the dirty filter.

that's just hilarious. :D and yet sad at the same time... just 8 days... it makes concrete what i think most of us already know... sucks.

nice blog you have here. :) i hope you keep it up because i don't really know of another blog with your topic, which does it from a philippine perspective.

yep. also a big drag on electricity costs. clean aircon filters regularly. Dirty filters mean less air reaching the cooling coils, then less cool air being pumped into the room. so people tend to turn their aircons on high, and use up more electricity.
